Speed Calculator:
The distance covered by a body in unit time is known as speed. This calculator solves a problem when any two of the variables are known. Follow the relevant examples below covering speed, distance, and time calculations:
1. Finding Speed (Cycling to School)
Sara cycles 6 km to school and takes 24 minutes. What's her average speed?
Given:
Distance = 6 km
Time = 24 minutes = 24 ÷ 60 = 0.4 hours
Formula: Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Calculation: Speed = 6 ÷ 0.4 = 15 km/h
Examples:
2. Finding Distance (School Bus Trip)
A school bus travels at 45 km/h for 30 minutes. How far does it travel?
Given:
Speed = 45 km/h
Time = 30 minutes = 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5 hours
Formula: Distance = Speed × Time
Calculation: Distance = 45 × 0.5 = 22.5 km
3. Finding Time (Walking to a Friend's House)
Max walks 2 km to his friend's house at 5 km/h. How long does it take?
Given:
Distance = 2 km
Speed = 5 km/h
Formula: Time = Distance ÷ Speed
Calculation: Time = 2 ÷ 5 = 0.4 hours = 24 minutes
